OUR STORY

8-year-old Maria Keller had a vision: to collect 1 million books for 1 million kids in need before she turned 18. So in 2009, she founded Read Indeed, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to collecting new and used books for people, schools, and organizations that  work with kids who otherwise wouldn’t have books.

Thanks to the generosity of friends like you, Maria’s dream became an extraordinary reality. She tripled her initial goal, gifting 3 million books to 1.5 million kids in 10 short years.

Today, Read Indeed is focused on the next 10 years and expanding their reach to  kids in need by turning every dollar donated into a new book for shipment anywhere in the world. Now, Maria is studying at the University of Notre Dame, and her younger brother, Ryan, is managing the organization. Together, they’re looking forward to Read Indeed’s next chapter.

HOW IT WORKS

  • We limit our focus to books for kids pre-K to Kindergarten, where literacy studies indicate the greatest need and the greatest positive impact
  • We partner with a network of publishers to purchase new books that ship directly to people, schools and organizations who work with at-risk kids
  • Thanks to these partnerships, we’re able to turn one buck into one new book
  • Teachers, community leaders, and organizations around the world reach out to us to request books for children in their care
  • Individuals, families, corporations, and foundations make annual fund donations easily online or contribute monthly as sustaining members
